Promises in the Dark
The young girl pushes against the backseat of the family sedan, fighting to free herself from the crude ties restricting her hands and feet. As the car speeds toward the edge of town, she looks back at her family home, and watches in horror as it suddenly explodes in a mass of flames. Trembling with fear, she turns toward the driver and hears only laughter. She knows that the worst is yet to come…
Detective Jenna Alton surveys the charred remains of the large suburban home, stopping to pause at the three lifeless bodies of the Woods family. Jenna knows she’s looking for a serial killer, but her priority is finding the missing teenage daughter last seen on the night of the inferno.
Days later, Sophie Woods’s body is discovered floating in a shallow pool of crystal-clear water – known locally as Dead Man’s Drop – but Jenna still doesn’t know who would target the quiet family in such a brutal attack.
Delving into the family’s past, she makes a shocking discovery – a link between the killer and someone connected to her deputy David Kane. If Jenna is right and the killer is back and seeking revenge, then she must act fast to keep her deputy safe.
When another girl is taken, Jenna and David follow the trail into a network of underground caves on the outskirts of town. With little time before the killer claims his next victim, they race into the pitch-black tunnels, unsure whether they have just walked into the killer’s trap. Can they find the girl in time and escape the caves without the killer chasing them down?

Who would your books be perfect for?
Perfect for readers of fast-paced crime thrillers.
Do you have a favourite character to write?
I love writing about Sheriff Jenna Alton. She’s a complicated woman with secrets who is tough yet keeps her feminine side. She rarely allows her feelings to show and sticks to the letter of the law. Although surrounded by men she’s never one of the boys. Jenna is in charge but underneath her professional façade, all my readers know, she has a soft spot for Kane, her deputy— but then who wouldn’t like a six-five handsome ex-marine?
Can you share with us a photo that means something special to you?
A wonderful memory to keep of my granddaughters’ performance on stage in a professional production.
What has been your proudest bookish moment?
When The Crying Season made it into the USA Today Bestselling List.
Do you have any questions for your readers?
Do you think any of my characters should be romantically involved?
Do you want more Kane and Alton books or are you anxious for a new series from me?
What is your favourite read of your whole life and why?
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I read crime thrillers but this story grabbed me by the heart and wouldn’t let go.
USA TODAY and Amazon Bestselling Author. An active member of International Thriller Writers.
Writing crime thrillers for Bookouture is a dream come true for me. I really love writing the Kane and Alton Series.
My debut crime thriller, Don’t Tell a Soul hit 32 in the Top 100 Bestseller list on Amazon USA, followed by Bring Me Flowers and Follow Me Home enjoying the same success then The Crying Season went into the USA TODAY Bestseller list.
It’s been great to “meet” so many wonderful readers from all over the world through my Facebook pages. Their support and friendship is inspirational.
I’m currently writing more books in the series. Where Angels Fear will be published on 21 February 2019. Kane and Alton book #6 is underway.
I love writing about the rugged beauty of Montana and my interest in the development of forensic science to solve crime goes back many years. It was one subject I enjoyed studying and with the constant advances, it never gets boring.
With many stories, waiting for me to write, I’ll look forward to sharing more exciting crime thrillers with you.
