Today it is my stop on the Boldwood Books blog tour for My One Month Marriage by Shari Low. This is my first tour for Boldwood Books and I hope it is the first of many. Find out my thoughts on the book below.
💍 My One Month Marriage
You know that “till death do us part” bit in the wedding vows? Well, Zoe Danton believed it. One month after she said “I do”, the man she loved is gone, given his marching orders after Zoe discovered a devastating secret.
As teenagers facing a crushing loss, Zoe made a pact with her three sisters to stick together no matter what. Now she’s discovered that one of them may have been the reason her husband betrayed her. She’s lost her happy-ever-after, but has she lost a sister too?
💍 Book Review
One Month Marriage
I fell in love with the cover of One Month Marriage, I like that it has a mature feeling. A modern elegance if you please. Then I opened my Kindle and I dived in. Meeting the four sisters was a whirlwind of information to take in but Shari Low writes so beautifully she made it dead easy.
I don’t think I have read a book based in Glasgow that wasn’t crime fiction. So it was a nice change to see a lifelike family come to life in the City. I am from the opposite coast over in Edinburgh. But I have been to Glasgow a few times over the years.
The sisters are all very different characters and when Zoe’s world crumbles after her one-month marriage comes to an end. Will her sisters be there to lift her up or did one of them add fuel to the fire.
I think I loved Marina the most, she has a Bree Van de Kamp style of living. With a list for every activity and a life checklist for every family member. Trying too hard is an understatement but why is she programmed that way?
Yvie would be my second favourite, although I haven’t thought this numbering favourites malarky through. None of them would be on the bottom of any list. They all bring something fascinating to the table, excuse me I mean book. So back to Yvie who is the emotional support sister of the group. If one of them has a problem, they call Yvie because she will make them feel better and be a tremendous support. But who is there when Yvie needs support?
My wee heart breaks for Verity, she is somewhat the odd one out. She feels frightfully sad to me, almost wound up to tight for her own good. Will she find her voice in time?
Then we have heartbroken Zoe, who lives her life to the max, usually. But will Ned be able to win the heart of fair maiden so soon after it’s been broken? Which sister has completely crossed the line?
The book is brilliant, the way it is written, the format of the book and the relateable characters are unforgettable. I absolutely loved every page and when it ended I felt like I was leaving new friends behind.
Shari Low knocks that awful chick-lit tag out the window with this mature, heartfelt story. Everybody’s fiction from the heart. A story of trust, family and most importantly self-love.
