Sleep by C.L. Taylor
All Anna wants is to be able to sleep. But crushing insomnia, terrifying night terrors and memories of that terrible night are making it impossible. If only she didn’t feel so guilty…
To escape her past, Anna takes a job at a hotel on the remote Scottish island of Rum, but when seven guests join her, what started as a retreat from the world turns into a deadly nightmare.
Each of the guests have a secret, but one of them is lying – about who they are and why they’re on the island. There’s a murderer staying in the Bay View hotel. And they’ve set their sights on Anna.
Seven strangers. Seven secrets. One deadly lie.
Someone’s going to sleep and never wake up…
Review by Kelly Lacey
I stepped into Sleep tentatively, I have had mixed journeys with C.L. Taylor and I wondered what this new adventure would bring. Quite aptly it brought a sleepless night and is honestly one of the best thriller reads I have read in some time.
Riveting from chapter one I was hooked. I don’t want to give any spoilers away as I want you to have the same experience as me. I love going into a book blind. With no clue as what to expect. C.L. Taylor always delivers a full reading experience.
In this case, the book for me played out like a stage play in my mind as I read. A mystery thriller with a ‘who done it’ feel. You feel the same out of control situations that the hotel guests do.
Setting the main core of the book on Rum a small island in Scotland was perfect plotting. It’s very hard in today’s society not have quick access to mobile phones, WiFi and food.
The book has so many twists and turns that it is impossible to work out the ending. Just when I thought I knew, CL Taylor threw in a plot curve so beautifully placed that I was flummoxed.
I loved the main character Anna, my heart broke for her. Unexpected circumstances causing her so much mental anguish. The book is so well written, I read it in two sittings and one sleepless night trying to work it out.
C.L. Taylor’s Sleep is guaranteed thriller satisfaction!
