In the last volume of the Fourth Talisman series, the worlds of the living and the dead collide in a final confrontation that will leave Nocturne and Solis forever changed….
Three talismans adrift.
Two mad kings.
One poisonous crown.
As dark forces gather at the Rock of Ariamazes in Samarqand, Nazafareen discovers that there are worse places than the afterlife. The twisted creature pulling the Vatras’ strings is holed up in the deepest level of the Dominion—and only she has the power to follow him there, though at the potential cost of her own soul.
Prophecy claims the three daeva clans must unite to face their greatest enemy again, but two of the talismans have vanished and the third is a child more used to skulking in the shadows than leading an army. Meb the Mouse might be their last hope—if anyone bothers to take her seriously.
And within the confines of the Rock, a dying king makes a pact with the devil, setting in motion a chain of events that could spell doom for friends and foes alike.
Kat Ross worked as a journalist at the United Nations for ten years before happily falling back into what she likes best: making stuff up. She’s the author of the dystopian thriller Some Fine Day, the Fourth Element fantasy trilogy (The Midnight Sea, Blood of the Prophet, Queen of Chaos), and a new gaslamp mystery series that opens with The Daemoniac and continues with The Thirteenth Gate. She loves myths, monsters and doomsday scenarios. For more information about Kat’s books, come visit her at katrossbooks.com.
WARNING: This book contains twists and turns, richly deserved comeuppances, shocking revelations, knock-down, drag-out fights, obsessive stalkers, some very nasty monsters…and, of course, true love.

The Fourth Talisman Series by Kat Ross
Where do I begin? This series is, in one word, epic. The landscape is sweeping, the storyline is riveting, the magic is powerful and intriguing. And the characters are rich and multi-faceted. Can you tell I love this series?
I actually had accidentally read the third book in the series first, was completely lost, and couldn’t stand the story. So please don’t make the same mistake I did but starting with a book out of order. This is definitely a series that must be read in order. Once I realized my mistake, I started with Nocturne, where we are reintroduced to some of the main characters. These characters might already be know from a previous series, but as someone who had never read Kat Ross’s books, she does an excellent job of luring me into this new world.
With Nocturne we are introduced to a land of people filled with magic. We find out the main problem statement for our main characters and learn quickly what rules apply on Nocturne. It’s infomrative but doesn’t bog down the reader. Kat Ross does an amazing job of introducin information as the scene occurs, rather than breaking us from the scene with a lecture.
In a nutshell, Nazafareen is a breaker, which means she’s a mortal who has the ability to negate magic. She’s living in Nocturne with the Daeva that can wield earth magic. When an assassin tries to kill her, she’s set on a journey that leads her out of Nocturne, and makes her aware of an evil power looming over the world. Searching for Nazafareen is her one true love, Darius. And so the journey bgins.
In Solis, the second book in the series, we find Nazafareen trying to rescue some of her friends who are now helpd captive by the Oracle We learn more about the fourth element of Fire, and the Ava Vatras who wield fire but were reduced to an area on the continent, called the Kiln. Word has it they are returning, and Nazafareen must seek out the three Talisman who have immense power, to try and prevent the Ava Vatras from returning and overtaking the world.
Monstrum is the third book in the series and brings us to the mid point of our saga. Nazafareen is reunited with Darius and they are in search of the three Talisman from the Daevas who can manipulate water, air, and earth magic. Also on the loose is a Vatra who controls fire. He is also in search of the three Talismans.
With Nemesis, the fourth book in the series, we learn that Nazafareen is the fourth Talisman and can also influence all four elements. In this book she enters the Kiln with an unlikely group of conspirators. But once in the Kiln, survival is not so easy.
Finally, our saga comes to an end with Inferno. And the final book answers all my questions yet leaves me wanting more from this author. We learn how Nazafareen is able to bring about peace to her world. And the route to this peace is not so simple as it would seem. How Nazafareen must wield her gift is not as straight forward as one would thing. Nor are all of her enemies and allies easily compartmentalized. What ensues is a mastermind adventure with multiple layers that slowly unpeel as we reach our most satisfying ending.
She sensed Darius behind her and turned. His face pales as he surveyed the scene at the walls. Then he gripped her arm and pointed.
Coming from the opposite direction, she saw what looked like masts in the distance. It was such a strange vision she could scarcely believe her eyes. Storm clouds moved in from the Umbra, lightning flickering in their depths. The heat that had gripped the city for days was whisked away on a fresh, cool breeze. A few droplets of rain spattered the stone balustrade.
…So the final reckoning had come. The darklands against the Kiln. It might be a lost cause, but the die was cast.
For all you lovers of fantasy, please run to your nearest bookstore, library, or computer, and grab this series. The storytelling is lush and the adventure had me burning the midnight oil.
