How long do you hunt for the missing?
A horrible vanishing act…
When a young Josie Masters sees a boy wearing a red football shirt, Dylan Jones, being taken by a clown at a carnival, she tries to alert the crowds. But it’s too late. Dylan has disappeared…
Thirty years later, Josie is working as a police officer in Bath. The remains of the body of a child have been found – complete with tatters of a torn red football shirt. Is it the boy she saw vanish in the clutches of the clown? Or is it someone else altogether?
And then another child disappears…
This debut novel by M.J Ford has had my brain in bits the last few days. I have been frantically trying to have some time with it because it is such a good read. It has a has an emotional intro where we have a snippet of something life-changing for the main protagonist Josie Masters (Jo). Then we fast forward to the present day and the repercussions of the past come back to haunt everyone or do they?
The storyline is very fast paced and although heavy with police procedural descriptions, it really works and you get a sense of being in on the action. With likeable characters and a personal story threaded throughout the pages.
I have to say I am not a fan of the cover, but more and more I am training my brain to look beyond the covers. Dive into different adventures and I have been truly surprised. I would not have wanted to miss out on reading Hold My Hand.
If you are looking for pure escapism and pulse racing reading. I thoroughly recommend Hold My Hand by M.J Ford. It may have clowns and baddies but the scariest thing about the book is how good the writing is.
