Today I am delighted to share my review of The Man Who Died By Antii Tuomainen.  I received an ARC of the novel from Orenda Book in exchange for an honest opinion. Thanks to Orenda Books and Anne Cater for the opportunity to be on this fabulous blog tour.

Book Synopsis

A successful entrepreneur in the mushroom industry, Jaakko Kaunismaa is a man in his prime. At just 37 years of age, he is shocked when his doctor tells him that he’s dying. What is more, the cause is discovered to be prolonged exposure to toxins; in other words, someone has slowly but surely been poisoning him. Determined to find out who wants him dead, Jaakko embarks on a suspenseful rollercoaster journey full of unusual characters, bizarre situations and unexpected twists. With a nod to Fargo and the best elements of the Scandinavian noir tradition, The Man Who Died is a page-turning thriller brimming with the blackest comedy surrounding life and death, and love and betrayal, marking a stunning new departure for the King of Helsinki Noir.

The Man Who Died  ~ Review

I was very lucky to hear Antti Tuomainen read and talk about The Man Who Died novel at the Edinburgh Book Festival earlier this year. When I was asked if I would like to be on the blog tour I jumped at the chance.

The Man Who Died was such a refreshing and unique read. I was hooked from start to finish. Jaako Kaunismaa is now on my top ten list of memorable characters.  I don’t do spoilers so it’s difficult to talk about the plot. A modern day, ‘Who done it?’ with humorous plot twists in every chapter. The tone and pace of the writing added to my reading experience. Often when I finished a chapter I was overcome with different questions and thoughts. Which for me is a sign of a great read, when I am so immersed in the story.

The book cover is gorgeous, with the crisp white and luminous green it really pops. The Man Who Died will be on your favourite reads of 2017. I know that I will re-read it again and for sure I will experience it differently each time as the writing is so exquisite and noteworthy.

Antti Tuomainen has the knack of putting you smack bang into the story and you buckle up and go on the wild ride with murder, mushrooms and so much more!
