Q&A Spot ~ Keep You Near ~ @RobRoughley @Bloodhoundbook #RT

About Robin Roughley

Robin Roughley

Robin Roughley lives in Wigan in the North West of England (God’s coal bunker) though he hopes to one day be released for good behaviour.
He is the author of eleven crime/thriller novels featuring DS Lasser. The novels are set between the run down streets of a northern town and the beautiful yet desolate west Pennine moors.
If you love your crime fiction crammed with square-jawed heroes driving flash cars and glorious women who shimmer with inner light, then the DS Lasser novels are probably not for you.
However, if you prefer your characters to be flawed, with a sprinkling of dandruff and old acne scars, the plots to be laced with dark humour, then give them a try.

Hi Kelly, thank you for inviting me to the blog. I have been a full-time author for the past three years and have thirteen books in the DS Lasser series available on Amazon. I am also working on the new Marnie Hammond crime series for Bloodhound Publishing. Before I tackled a novel I wrote plays for fun, a couple of which were performed script in hand at the Contact Theatre in Manchester. With the rise of companies like Amazon I decided to try my hand at a novel, after having no joy with the traditional publisher I uploaded it to Amazon and I haven’t really stopped writing since. I love to write and as long as the readers are happy then so am I.

Describe yourself using three words?

Determined, solitary, hopeless.

What inspired you to write your first novel?

Reading so many bad ones, I simply lost the thrill of reading and decided to have a bash myself.

What time of day do you like to write?

I normally start around half seven in the morning and clock off around six.

What is your favourite book and why?

December by Phil Rickman, wonderfully evocative with fantastic characters that are a joy to read, and very scary as well which all adds to the atmosphere of the book.

How did you pick the title of your book?

I wanted something that kind of explains what motivates certain characters within the story and it seemed to fit the bill.

Are the characters in your book based on real people?

I never really use actual people but I do use traits that I admire in others and take it from there.

What’s your favourite word?

If you were a colour what would it be?

Green, as I prefer to be out walking in the open countryside rather than working.

Do you plan your story beforehand or go with the flow?

I did try working that way but not anymore, I prefer to let the characters lead me by the nose and see where it takes me.

Who is your favourite Author?  Phil Rickman

If you could give any literary villain a happy ending who would you chose?

Moriarty from the Holmes novels.

Are you working on a new project?

I am working on the second in the brand new Marnie Hammond series at the moment and going well so far.

How far would you go to find your missing sister?
A normal day in the park turns into a nerve-shredding nightmare for eleven-year-old Marnie Hammond when she finds herself in a desperate chase to stop the ‘bad man,’ from abducting Abby.
Fifteen years later, Marnie is a Detective Sergeant but the memory of her missing sister still haunts her dreams.
When it becomes clear that someone is stalking the streets of Kirkhead DS Hammond has her hands full, and after remains are discovered buried in a dense woodland, Marnie fears the worst. But this is only the start of a nightmare that will unearth more bones, more victims and the terror that Abby might be among the dead.
To stop the monster Marnie knows she must break the rules, but when the twisted killer turns his attention on her it becomes a fight not only for the truth but for her sanity and her survival.

Can Marnie catch the murderer and solve her sister’s disappearance?

This is the first book in the thrilling new Marnie Hammond Series
